London Life: Week 8 - Organisational Heaven!

Image
Week eight of twelve complete and London Fashion Week is fast approaching!! Regent's Park Monday:  I continued working on my embroidery piece, went to London Trimmings for elastic and spent the evening assembling golden card beetles with super glue for an installation. Baker Street Station Tuesday:  Myself and Katie were assigned the job of organising the whole archive, so starting with the Giles AW 2004 collection, we had to sort through every collection, arranging them in order and making note of what was in stock and what wasn't. As you can imagine this took quite a lot of time, but it was great to see all the garments first hand. By then end of Tuesday, we had completed as far as 2008. For those of you who know me, you will know that I do love organisation, so sadly enough, this was a really enjoyable task! The View from the London Eye Wednesday: We were back in the archive again, we spent the first half of the day, organising the collections and

London Life: Week 7 - The One When I Finally Made It To Brighton!

Week 7 complete and it was a pretty standard week. Not complaining, it flew just like every other week and it was extremely enjoyable, however it was a quite repetitive week, justing undergoing the usual errands and tasks. So I won't ramble on about that, I'll keep it simple and get down to the exciting bit, this weekend I finally made the trip to Brighton and I can safely I'll be returning. Such a beautiful town, keep scrolling for some pretty seaside pics from my Saturday! Monday: Embroidery sampling and a trip to the laser cutters Tuesday:  Embroidery, a trip to VV Rouleaux for grosgrain and to Kleins for boning, finished my embroidery piece and started a new one. Wednesday:  Embroidery, sourced gold card for laser cutting, a trip to forma leather, took some photos of a garment to be sent to a client and began sampling embroidery on smocked pieces. Thursday:  More embroidery sampling and collected fabric from Laurent Garigue, a supplier to some of the wor

London Life: Week 6 - The Half Way Mark

So we're half way there now, six weeks since I've been home, six weeks until I'll be home! It's crazy and I'm so grateful for this experience. If you asked me this time last year, what I would be doing by now, I never in a million years would have thought I'd be spending my summer in London, interning at Giles and experiencing this incredible city. I know I keep repeating myself but it is so surreal, I genuinely can't believe that this is happening and it just makes me believe that, if there is something you truly want, something that you are so extremely passionate about, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from achieving it. One way or another, there is always a way to achieve your goals, you just need to believe in yourself. The Shard Monday morning I completed my beaded embroidery sample. After that, I made a trip into Soho, to buy some grosgrain for a corset. Later on I had to source some water colour ink for Giles for his illustrations, so

London Life: Week 5 - Wedding Dress Stress

Image
That's another one finito... nearly half way there! Monday: The week took off as usual, the routine tidy up and some embroidery. I was very easily persuaded to go to Nando's for lunch which was delicious as per usual, followed with more embroidery. Then the madness began, that evening, myself and Katie were basically tested to see if we would be fit for the task at hand, by sewing a small sample of the lace onto fabric, which they were happy with, so then we began hand sewing the lace (that we had cut the previous week) onto the wedding dress. YES you read that correctly, I was physically there, with my hands on this custom made couture GILES wedding dress, so we did that for about an hour before we finished for the day and stress levels for rocketing, all the responsibility. A simple prick of a needle and a drop of blood away from ruining this incredibly expensive dress. London Skyline at 4am Tuesday: Tuesday, we were back on the dress again for the whole day, s

This week felt super short, I took Monday off from work as Mam wasn't flying back til Monday night. So I decided I might as well make the most of the time I had with her here, which resulted in a Tuesday that felt like a Monday, and a very short four days at work. Monday: So on Monday our tourist adventure continued and we went to see the All England Lawn Tennis Club, more commonly know as Wimbledon. The tour included a pretty impressive museum as well as an hour and a half long tour around the grounds, seeing familiar sights from TV, such as Centre Court and Court 1, as well as Henman Hill and the Press Interview Room. A really worth while trip, for anyone remotely interested in tennis. We then made our way back to the apartment and said our goodbyes ending a lovely weekend of adventures. Centre Court - under some maintenance Tuesday: Tuesday I was more than happy to go back to work. Work isn't really 'work' when you enjoy it so much. Back to more embroide
